Inhalt: | During the last decade the average age of patients undergoing coronary bypass surgery has increased. By the older age of the patients the extend of the coronary heart disease has also been aggravated. Many high risk patients that are nowadays operated routinely would not have been operated on ten years ago. The presupposition for performing operations in a high risk group of patients is that the result of the operation is much better than that of interventional or non-operative therapy. Therefore the operative outcome of the clinic in which the operation is performed should be made transparent, so that patients can be informed about their individual risk and the indication for the operative intervention can be weighted more easily. The reduction of angina pectoris, reduction of infarction rate, prolongation of life expectancy in high-risk patient groups and a significant increase in quality of life justify the operative intervention in patients with a high operative risk. |
