Heart Tumors
The most common tumor of the heart is myxoma constituting more than 50 % of the primary tumors of the heart. It typically originates from the atrial septum in the area called Fossa ovalis. The region of the septum giving rise to a tumor needs to be excised and the area concerned closed with a patch.
Malignant tumors of the heart are extremely rare. The most common malignant tumor is a sarcoma (rhabdomyo, leiomyo, fibro or angiosarcoma). Malignant fibrohistocytoma and primary malignant lymphoma have occasionally been observed.
