Operations of the Great Vessels - Surgical Spectrum

Operations of the Great Vessels
The aorta is subdivided into the ascending, arch, descending and abdominal aorta. The latter is further subdivided into suprarenal (the part above the artery to the kidney) and infrarenal (the part below the artery to the kidney). From the technical point of view, the part of the aorta distal to the origin of the left subclavian artery is referred to as the thoraco-abdominal aorta, a common site of dilatation (aneurysm).
The operations performed in our hospital cover the whole spectrum of modern aortic surgery. Neurological complications are minimized by applying so-called "antegrade cerebral perfusion" (supplying the brain with blood during the phase of circulatory arrest).
